Well, isn’t this interesting…

…rock guitar legend Eric Clapton doing the old Don Williams hit “Tulsa Time,” at Deep Tracks, Sirius Ch. 16. I’d heard Clapton was a country fan here and there, but I didn’t expect this. Pretty good, though. A bit faster and more guitar-driven than the DW record, but I like it. I wonder what else Mr. Clapton listens to in his spare time…

You have to remember that Clapton is first and foremost a blues player, and blues and country have a lot of the same roots.
Another big fan of country is Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones.

The “Stones” did a country tune “Far-Away Eyes.” It has to be my favorite Rolling Stones song.

Given how much I like that song and how little I like Clapton, I think I’ll pass.

Oh, no doubt about it. I just thought it was really cool. And yeah, I’d heard about Keith Richards being a big fan of traditional country too. I’ll have to check out that song, K.D.

Oh, I understand. I used to feel the same way, but then he and a lot of the other classic rock artists grew on me. I know that doesn’t happen with everyone, though.

Pistolero, check you e-mail. I have sent you 2 country tunes by the Stones. IN 2006 when they played at the Sun Bowl, they played Marty Robbins ” El Paso.” I can’t a full copy of it.

Cool, I’ll check those out when I get an extra few minutes. For now I gotta jet, though. Thanks, buddy. Smile

YouTube has concert footage of the Stones doing “Bob Wills is Still the King.” It’s actually pretty damn good once you get past the cognitive dissonance (again, though, I’m a big Rolling Stones fan).

So is Metallica frontman James Hetfield’s rendition of “Don’t You Think This Outlaw Bit’s Done Got Out Of Hand.” But then it helps that I’ve been a Metallica fan for a long time. And right as I wrote that, I heard the opening riff to “Master of Puppets”…
