A new favorite for me, from Waylon Jennings…

…at The Roadhouse, Sirius Ch. 62: “Someone called us outlaws, in some old magazine…and New York sent a posse down like I ain’t never seen…”
A hit record for Waylon in 1978, “Don’t You Think This Outlaw Bit’s Done Got Out of Hand” was based on a true story, the one of his getting busted for possession of cocaine. I had not heard this song that much before I got Sirius, but it’s gotten to be one of my favorites. As bad as I hate to admit it, I really got familiar with the song due to James Hetfield’s recording it on the 2003 Waylon tribute I’ve Always Been Crazy, and while the Waylon original is different, it remains the best.

I know and like the Hetfield version too.

My favorite Waylon Tribute cd was the Red River album, featuring Wade Bowen, Billy Joe Shaver, Ragweed, Phil Pritchett, and others.

Anything by Old Waylon is good in my book….Heck, I listen to him at least once a week on my way to school.

My favorite Waylon song is whichever one is playing at the moment.

I’m still not too familiar with that song, but I did like Hetfield’s version when you played it for me. He did a great job. I think my favorite off that particular album, though, is Shooter’s version of “I’ve Always Been Crazy”. I hear it on KFWR quite a bit.

Now THAT sounds like it’d be ten kinds of badass. You might be surprised to hear I have never heard anything from it. I shall have to change that…

I am not surprised. K.D. You have great taste in music, as you have demonstrated often with your comments. I’d let you feed the jukebox and I’d buy the beer if we found ourselves at the same hole-in-the-wall bar.

Every time you say that, honey, it makes me grin. And yeah, Shooter’s rendition of “I’ve Always Been Crazy” was really good.
