A Texas Democrat….

…is scarcely better than a California Democrat, apparently, at least when it comes to Second Amendment rights:

The Texas Democratic Convention is winding down with votes on resolutions that have included legalizing medical marijuana and requiring background checks on sales at gun shows.

The Democrats also have passed a resolution supporting a continuation of the ban on handguns on college campuses.

And apparently their supporters are just as anti-rights as they are, as seen by this comment:

Now if you are opposed to the resolution then you must feel that criminals and wife beaters should be allowed to have weapons along with the criminally insane.

Lovely. I do so tire of this line of reasoning. I really wish those on our side would take the converse line of reasoning and ask the Democrats why they support dangerous people walking free, or why they think that sort of thing is just peachy as long as they (allegedly) can’t get a gun. We see them harping on this whole “gun show loophole” thing all the time, but — and not that it matters in the big scheme of things — has there ever been even one documented killing with a gun by a criminal who got it from a gun show or via a private sale? Of all the stories I have read, I have yet to see even one. I’m not saying they’re not happening, but the Democrats seem to be making it to be a much bigger problem than it is.

    Hmmm, let’s see:

Legalize Marajuana because it’s silly to think you can prevent people from getting something they want when it’s smuggled across the border by the ton? Check.

Keep guns away from criminals, when people are smuggling tons of contraband across the border? FAIL.

The punchline, of course, is that all of these people think they’re ever so much smarter than that chimp George W. Bush.

Actually I would be opposed to that resolution because criminals, wife beaters, as well as the criminally insane have weapons and there’s not a damn thing we can to to stop it. Gun control doesn’t work. Better to be prepared.

If wife beaters had easier access to guns, they might suicide or shoot their wives, thereby eliminating wife beating! WIN-WIN!

Remember, in the BIG picture, “Guns don’t kill people, a Supernova or Asteroid strike will kill people! ALL OF THEM!”

I shall make bumper stickers–“END SUPERNOVA AND ASTEROID STRIKE EVENTS IN OUR LIFETIME”

and “IF WIFE BEATERS HAD GUNS, THEY MIGHT NOT BEAT THEIR WIVES”

IT’s FOR the CHILDREN AND WIVES AND MOTHERS AND UNWED MOTHERS AND PUPPIES AND KITTENS AND DOLPHINS AND ABORTION AND DOLPHIN ABORTIONS! DOLPHINS HAVE REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS, TOO!

If I keep typing like that last line will it make me eligible to grow dreads as a white guy and hang out at poetry slams?

FWIW, plenty of people have been killed by implements bought from every and any place that you can buy said implements. So saying “Give me an example of somebody ki9lled by a gun bought at a gun show or by private sale” will allow somebody to give you a myriad of people that were killed by guns bought that way, just as easily as if you said “Give me an example of people killed by guns traded for crank” will find multiple hits in the $PEOPLE_WHO_HAVE_BEEN_MURDERED database.

Just saying. It happens. The point is, it’s not because of gun shows that people get murdered, as plenty of people have been killed by guns bought and stolen in every way guns can be bought and stolen.

Fair? Otherwise you end up painting yourself in sort of a weird discussion corner where some anti-gun person will argue forever with you and it’s not even a relevant topic, as we are agreed upon. Regulating tools doesn’t prevent bad behavior.
