What if he’d been killed?

Rafael Gonzales Sanchez, that is:

“She warned the officer to be careful, because he carries a gun in his truck,” McManus said. “So the officer started talking to him, asked him if he had a weapon, and he said, ‘Yes, in my truck.’“

Sanchez offered to get the weapon, but the officer told him not to.

“He disregarded what the officer said, leaned inside the truck, and got the gun,” McManus said. “Then, he spins towards the officer and starts to shoot.”

Man, that was a really smart move on the part of Mr. Sanchez. (/sarcasm) Looks like he pretty much displayed what he intended to do when he went for that gun.

I don’t know how the officer shooting back didn’t kill him, but I do wonder what the reaction would have been from certain groups, had he been killed. It seems to be a pretty open-and-shut case of domestic violence that would have escalated to murder if it hadn’t been dealt with. I hope his wife buys herself a gun for next time instead of relying on the police.

Come to think of it, you know what this is, right? Another instance that illustrates why it’s immoral to require a costly permit to exercise your right of self-defense. Anybody wanna bet that Sanchez’s wife could barely afford a gun, let alone the permit to carry it to defend herself?

I think shooting at cops is widely regarded as a good way to get yourself killed. What is the headline you’re imagining here?

    > Anybody wanna bet that Sanchez’s wife could barely afford a gun, let alone the permit to carry it to defend herself?

How do you know she didn’t have a gun, but didn’t have it handy? If you’re going to add in how the man is probably keeping her down, why not go for the gold? “Anybody want to bet that Sanchez’s wife is a collector of firearms, but was unable to defend herself after the gov’t took them away because they were registered?”

Sorry, but I’m just not going to dignify any of that with a response beyond…well, what I just said.
