In which I channel the bourgeoisie.

Apologies in advance for sounding so SWPL-ish…

…but the HEB in our new neighborhood, the Alon Market over at Northwest Military and Wurzbach Parkway, is pretty nifty. We had driven by it a couple of times and it looked pretty nice from the outside, so we figured we’d check it out. How was it, you ask?

Short answer: Quite impressive.

Long answer: Like a Central Market and HEB Plus all rolled into one. I don’t know if it has everything Central Market has, but it does have a lot of the same offerings ā€” expansive meat, bakery & dairy sections (goat cheese FTW!), a kosher section, and a lot of the same bulk candy & coffee selections, just to name a few things. (And the big 16-oz. bottles of Mexican Coke! SCORE!) It’s almost as if the Alon Market was HEB’s way of saying, “Sorry about putting the Central Market down in Alamo Heights, Northwest Siders, but here’s a real nice HEB market store to make up for it with a lot of what Central Market has.”

Central Market’s still my favorite, but the Alon Market is more than adequate for those quick trips. šŸ˜‰

(In all seriousness, though. Five bucks for a damned pound of hamburger? ##I$*#*($@#$ I don’t care that it was 96% lean, that’s too damned much!)
