That’s more than a bit misleading.

So while I was out and about getting Sabra and me some lunch yesterday, I heard a spot on 99.5 KISS advertising the show featuring the cluster-copulation known as Geoff Tate’s Queensryche. Which, from what I gather, was quite misleading, in more ways than one:

For one, Tate has said before that he and his scabs aren’t going to be touring until next year. Right now it’s just he and his solo band. I don’t know; maybe they think it’s close enough as Kelly Gray and Randy Gane are both playing in Tate’s version of Queensryche. But really, that isn’t the worst of it…

They advertised it as “the voice of the Grammy-nominated ‘Silent Lucidity,'” as if Tater still has that voice. Hell, he can barely sing even that song anymore, let alone most of the rest of anything from the EP to Promised Land. Gonna be a loooot of disappointed fans coming out of that one, at least the ones who don’t swallow the whole “Geoff Tate is Queensryche” bullshit.

Hmmm. I saw Queensryche right after Operation: Mindcrime was released, and again about 5 years ago. I know what you mean.

That vocal style has a short shelf life. Enjoy it while you’ve got it, if you’d got it.

That may be, although I am sure Tate could have made it last longer had he stayed off the cigs & booze. You’d think he’d have learned after he knocked off part of his top end with the chain-smoking after Mindcrime was recorded.

What do you think of QR now that they’re fronted by Todd La Torre?

Most people, but especially rock singers, are their own worst enemies.

I haven’t really followed them for several years (the newer material didn’t click with me), so I didn’t know they had a new singer. I will definitely check it out, though! Thanks for the info.

This is true, especially for Geoff Tate these days.

There are a ton of clips on YouTube of Queensryche playing with Todd La Torre, from the Hard Rock Cafe shows in June all the way up to the most recent show, which if I remember correctly was in Snoqualmie, Washington just a couple of weeks ago. I saw them in San Antonio a few weeks ago and they brought the house down.
