…or, Yep, I totally called it.
When it was announced that Geoff Tate and his scabs were going to be releasing an album, I said elsewhere that it was going to be more of the same crap that Queensryche fans haven’t been buying since at least 2006. My reasoning for such was as follows.
We know where Geoff Tate is at creatively these days, what with the last Queensryche album and his solo album — not to mention his constant dissing of metal and its fans. Plus, the creative team behind this album — Geoff Tate, Kelly Gray, and Jason Slater — was the same creative team behind American Soldier and Dedicated to Chaos (the last two QR albums) and Tate’s latest solo album, Kings and Thieves.
Well, samples of this album hit iTunes today…
and suffice it to say, musically speaking, it sounds like American Soldier at best, shitty vocals and all. From the clips I’d have to say about the only song that struck me as even half-decent would have to be “Weight of the World,” but Tater would have done so much better with even that song had he not trashed that once-golden voice. I don’t even want to think about how much of the album was subjected to Auto-Tune.
And the less-said about the re-recordings of the classic Queensryche hits, the better. I have never liked it when artists re-record their classic hits in the studio and this is no exception, not least of all because Tater can’t sing ’em anymore.
Michael Wilton: All right, Tater… you called down the thunder, well now you’ve got it! You see that? [Wilton opens his coat and reveals a copy of the forthcoming Queensrÿche album.]
Michael Wilton: It says Queensrÿche! With the umlaut out there FOR ALL TO SEE!
Geoff Tate: [terrified, pleading] Michael, please, I…
Michael Wilton: [pulling out a picture of Bon Scott] Take a good look at him, Geoff… ’cause that’s how you’re gonna end up!
Michael Wilton: Geoff Tate’s Queensryche is finished, you understand? I see another wretched copy of Frequency Unknown and Todd shatters some eardrums, do you hear me?
[lets Tate up to run for his life]
Michael Wilton: So run, you cur… RUN! Tell Randy and Kelly the metal’s comin’!
Michael Wilton: You tell ’em I’M coming… and Todd, Parker, Eddie and Scott are coming with me, you hear?…
Michael Wilton: Queensrÿche’s coming with me!
tl/dr: Todd, Whip, Eddie, Scott, and Parker — aka the real Queensryche — are going to destroy this with their album.
