Well, here we go.

…or, Looks like Greg Abbott just won the next Texas gubernatorial election:

Democrat Wendy Davis, a state senator who catapulted to national prominence this summer with a filibuster over access to abortion, is running for Texas governor….

Democratic state Rep. Rafael Anchia said Thursday that Davis is “straight out of central casting” as a bright and telegenic candidate.

“No disrespect to any of the other candidates, but the excitement that Wendy Davis has generated in this state has not been seen since Ann Richards,” Anchia said.

SNORT. Ann Richards. Everyone remembers how Ann Richards ended up, yes? She got beaten by that dumb, inarticulate cowboy from Crawford, George W. Bush.

And I read elsewhere that none other than Nancy Pelosi has said that Davis would have no problem raising the money she needs. Presumably that means that Pelosi and other national Democrats are going to be helping her. If that ends up happening, it’s going to be the kiss of death with a lot of Texas voters. I can just hear it now.

“Wendy Davis is the candidate of choice of the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Michael Bloomberg! Lefty carpetbaggers, one and all!”

But even if that doesn’t happen, she’s still manifestly unqualified.

Aw shucks, here I was hoping that ‘our’ illustrious mayor was going to be the ‘chosen one’…………….;-)
wendy ‘would’ be the choice of the ‘wonderful’ folks you listed, after all she is just like them.

SNORT. I am sure they have higher aspirations for Julian Castro, if you know what I mean.

She lost her bid for re-election. Before that, she capitalized on her opponent’s idiocy to win an early battle in the “War on Women.” Make no mistake, some Soros-funded group is now poring over transcripts of Abbot’s speeches in hopes he said something untoward about rape.

Failing to take seriously the DNC machinery that will be running her bid would be stupid, stupid, stupid. Remember “Obama won’t be re-elected, even Democrats don’t like him!”? Don’t underestimate Dems’ ability to rally behind the party’s anointed. They are collectivists, and see it as a virtue.

Sabra has a great point; not only is Davis photogenic (which will mean a lot of free air time) — she has a huge political machinery to draw on.

Even President Barack Obama took notice, tweeting from his official account, “Something special is happening in Austin tonight.”

And we know how well he did with the low information voters; if he supports Davis, — could be interesting.

Oh, I agree. My general attitude towards the whole thing presupposes the Republicans doing everything they should, i.e., painting Davis as the candidate of out-of-staters who don’t have Texas’ best interests at heart — that and perhaps painting her as a different version of Barack Obama, with all flash and no substance. Just like Obama, the curve Wendy Davis is being graded on is unfathomably huge. And the Republicans would indeed be fools not to shine a light on that. I like to think Texas Republicans are smarter in general than the Reps on the national level, but we shall see.

Need I remind you of Gov. Perry’s failed Presidential bid? Wherein, rather than walking around repeating “Half of all jobs created in the last four years were created in the state I run” he let the name of the ranch his family’s hunting lease was on torpedo him?

That said, Bill White had absolutely nothing to offer and lost miserably, so…
