Oh, look! Another violent criminal who couldn’t get a gun!

Wow, this is the most ghastly thing I’ve seen in quite a while…

In what’s described as one of the most brutal crimes ever seen locally, an east Harris County man is accused of burning his estranged wife’s breasts and vagina with fire, permanently disfiguring her, according to court documents.

Gregory Longoria Jr., 39, of the 17700 block of Wayforest, is charged with aggravated assault of a family member and being held in the county jail without bond.

Longoria is accused of causing serious bodily injury to his estranged wife by using a can of hair spray and a cigarette lighter to burn her nipples and vagina and then ripping one of her nipples off her body with his hand, court documents show….

Diaz, with the sheriff’s office, said when Longoria was arrested “he had a smirk on his face … like he didn’t care.” Longoria was “totally unremorseful” and refused to speak to investigators, Diaz said.

But it’s okay, because he couldn’t legally get a gun. You know why he couldn’t legally get a gun? Of course you do…

Longoria has a lengthy criminal record in Harris County, including a previous 1992 conviction for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon, which netted him a 10-year prison sentence, records show.

He also was charged in 1991 with attempt to commit murder after a Bellaire Police Department investigation and was granted probation and deferred adjudication of guilt in 1992 for that offense. He has arrests in Harris County that date back to 1990.

And you know exactly where I’m going with this, but I’m going to point it out at every single opportunity.

You know what this is, right? This is the type of crime that Sarah Brady, Paul Helmke, Joan Peterson, and Mike Bonomo don’t care about because the perpetrator didn’t use a gun. And Gregory Longoria, Jr. is just one more violent criminal those people don’t see any problem with walking among free men because, hey, it’s against the law for him to own a gun!

No quarter, folks. These people are evil, and they must be crushed.

    Pistolero,

    This is ghastly indeed.

I would also point out that not only was this not done with a gun but anti-rights advocates like Joan Peterson, MikeB302000 want to make it harder for people like her parents to get a firearm to defend themselves.

They want licensing requirements to raise the costs.
They want to prohibit low cost “saturday night specials” pricing firearms out of reach of many people — especially the elderly and disabled.
They want to allow ‘may issue’ licensing of carrying and even ownership –putting their right to firearms in the hands some sheriff or police chief.
They want to mandate ‘safe storage’ laws; raising the cost of ownership and making it impractical for home defense.

By focusing on ‘gun control’ instead of ‘criminal control’ they are enabling vicious thugs like him to commit crimes.

AARP believes the elderly should learn kung fu or something to protect themselves. Such advocates.

As you say, these people are not against brutal unrelenting cruelty against the innocent as long as they don’t use a firearm. Or after firearms are banned, knives, or whatever.

Wow. Just wow. Joan Peterson wants “unbelievable”? That story pretty much personifies it.

And you are exactly right – no firearm was used, no firearm could be used (at least not legally), and no one actually died, so the anti-rights cultists simply will not care about this woman’s permanent and life-changing disfigurement.

This is the kind of crime Joan Peterson says she would prefer a thousand times over than the possibility of firearm-related crime. Disgusting.

Oh, I’d say they’d make it impossible if they could, but I’m just cynical that way, Bob.

And Les, I was reading JP’s blog, and some of the comments there confirmed what I’d suspected: a knife is much worse than a gun as far as wounds go.

this is the kind of crime Joan Peterson says she would prefer a thousand times over than the possibility of firearm-related crime.

Indeed. I should go link this post on her blog. No doubt it’d meet with some good ole Reasoned Discourse(tm), though.

I stopped believing the old saw about bringing a knife to a gunfight a long time ago unless you are at least 50 yards away. A fairly small ex-con took out two big outlaw biker types with one cut each. They were going to teach him a lesson. One died, the other lost a kidney. I pay attention to knives.

On another aside, I remember an officer who was at the scene of a young pregnant hispanic woman who was snatched by a gang (not in the big city, by the way) at a gas station and had all sorts of indignities visited upon her before they killed her. He mentioned the smirk one of the gangsters had on his face at the scene. He said it was extremely hard not to blow the persons head off. Too bad she and Shelly Sikes didn’t have a weapon. Shelly was taken in broad daylight on a major highway with a pickup and a brick. No firearm thought.

[…] a H/T to a great post from Southtexaspistolero that dovetails so well with the “Gun Death?” and “Bad Justice” categories. […]
